VAM-1AY thin diagonal die scratch through ICA of
AMERICA. The gouge is a very straight line. Several die gouges have
been located in the lower reverse area of 1921-D coins, but this is gouge is
outside that typical area. Located in an unusual position, this is the only
known gouge in the neighborhood of AMERICA.

If you run into a proof-like Denver Morgan dollar, check to see if it
contains this die gouge. There are few Denver dies polished to the
point they would produce proof-like dies and this particular VAM appears to
be one of those limited few.
